Vince Mazur is the president and founder of Mazur Instruments. His company, based south of Denver, Colorado, develops and manufactures handheld Geiger counters used by consumers, professionals and organizations to detect, measure and monitor nuclear radiation.
Prior to starting Mazur Instruments, Vince spent over 25 years in the Electronics Design Automation industry, an industry with strong Portland roots as it was founded in large part by Wilsonville’s Mentor Graphics Corporation. Vince held positions in engineering, sales and marketing with a variety of Electronic Design Automation firms including Intergraph, Synopsys, and Mentor Graphics. The EDA industry, as it is known, provides enabling software for the design of semiconductor chips and electronic products and has played a critical role in the development of all electronics.
After assisting leading companies such as Texas Instruments, Intel and Apple in electronic product development processes, Vince decided to utilize his experience directly in his own enterprise. Development of the company’s flagship product, the PRM-8000 Geiger Counter and Radiation Monitor, began in March of 2008 and the initial qualification prototypes were available in October of that same year.
Following the March 2011 tragedy in Japan the company leveraged the PRM-8000’s flexible architecture to update device software to support Japanese text menus and has shipped many units worldwide.
Mazur Instruments is an affiliate of the Health Physics Society (hps.org) and Vince will be presenting a paper at the organization’s yearly meeting in Sacramento within the Homeland Security Session on Optimizing Local, National and Global Nuclear Emergency Response with Connected and Situationally Aware Instrumentation.
While his focus is electronics, Vince has had a long time interest in new age physics, ufology and spirituality.
