THE PANIC OPTION AND EMERGENCY POWERS
In the wake of the devastating Frankenstorm that hit the East Coast, it is impossible to know the attitudes of everyone in the aftermath; however, the mainstream media has captured an overall attitude of dissonance that could echo louder than Katrina did in its day. Mainly because of cynicism and mistrust just prior to a national election where our votes, when cast, will not as much as affect the outcome of a bought and sold electorate.
The United States has a hidden sense of entitlement and the urge to act as though what is happening here is business as usual and that whatever comes from elected leaders should be treated as ex cathedra even though the judgments that are being made are being done under duress.
With the bumpy road that is a cataclysmic cycle in 2012, elected officials that are frightened weigh the options of pushing the panic button and demanding that emergency powers be used to give excuses for the militarized police forces to take hold of a city and enforce curfews and other draconian measures in order to somehow insure public safety.
Believe it or not, there have been American citizens that were caught in the middle of Hurricane Sandy that are demanding that the leadership declare martial law in order to give the police more power with the aid of the military.
One example was the recent push for Mayor Tom Leighton of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to activate the Military and declare a state of martial law. The Wilkes- Barre council voted in favor of martial law and the Mayor rejected the move.
The question is: why were American citizens so willing to concede their civil rights? The police had all the power they needed to maintain order.
Are we now at a point in the United States where we don’t understand the implications of what martial law is or what Executive Orders and lists of American citizens marked for death means to the very liberty and well-being of the country?
I wonder if we have been desensitized to a fascist rule that the fix is in and that when the government suggests more police rule, we immediately accept it because we feel that we need to be corralled and under surveillance at all times.
Martial law is not simply an emergency declaration. It is the suspension of civil rights and assumption of all authority by the police or military, which in a democracy are supposed to be under civilian control.
The measure is so extreme that, on the national level, it has been imposed exactly once by Abraham Lincoln. Despite the obvious calamity posed by the Civil War, Lincoln's imposition of martial law and suspension of habeas corpus remains controversial to this day.
While we see playing over again apocalyptic images of death and destruction on television from Hurricane Sandy it may be the very trigger that would send Americans into frenzy into believing that the world around them is out of order and that the leaders we have could correct it all with harsh moves and deployments of soldiers in the homeland.
While we are bagging up the dead and totaling up the estimated property loss there have been some movements by our elected officials that signal a mental state of dissonance and that the American people are not aware that executive orders and expedient mandates have been made to push the panic button and flip the switch on emergency powers to execute draconian measures - all for the perceived safety of the Americans affected by the storm.
Prior to the storm, Ground zero had discovered that Barack Obama had already set into motion plans for the seizing of private property prior to the Storm slammed into the eastern seaboard.
James Evan Pilato had reported briefly that it was a very interesting coincidence that earlier Obama had signed an executive order called the National Defense Resources Preparedness Act. This proposal granted Obama executive authority to seize all United States resources and persons, including during peacetime, for “national defense” and claims the power to place any American into military or “allocated” labor use.
While that order had been in effect since March, it was the October 26th, 2012 signing of the Executive Order titled Establishing the White House Homeland Security Partnership Council which will enable an establishment of a select group of people to foster partnerships between federal government and corporate foundations which smells a lot like what Mussolini established with Italian corporate interests before World War II.
These types of maneuvers when reported are immediately dismissed as an attempt to politically obfuscate the people and deter them into thinking that the solution to this is a republican president.
This no longer works and it must be demonstrated that what we must fear is that Americans are somehow of the belief that America is beyond corruption and that we have safeguards on play that will guarantee that the United States will prevail.
This is definitely not that case.
It looks as if the new sense of American entitlement is the same age old American Exceptionalism that now has become an excuse for denial. It needs to be said that the Constitution is not some magical document that somehow has the power to zap away any and all enemies of it. It has no magical power and yet we as Americans believe that for some reason that it will always prevail when there is a demand that old fashioned fascism should step in and imprison and corporatize the state into a dark despotism.
The Constitution is no longer a safeguard from tyranny.
Some American leaders see it as a necessity to suspend human rights despite the warnings of the founding fathers about what happens when this is accomplished. The media also finds it within its scope of judgment not to question the motives of our elected officials - even though we now know that our government leaders have now descended into the abyss of psychopathic oligarchy and will not stop until they control everything including what you eat, who you have sex with, what drugs you take and what jobs you are destined for when they open up the new genetically monitored medical surveillance state.
We now are a country that does not stand accountable for treaty violations, first strike threats and capabilities against nations with less firepower, and state sanctioned murder of its citizenry.
American Exceptionalism is responsible for the illegal use of drones in the war theater and the push for 30,000 loaded drones to be used for law enforcement in the United States. It is obvious that we see this exceptionalism rear its head when we justify the use of drones on perceived enemies and yet invoke the 4th amendment when they are used on American citizens.
Of course, when they are used on American citizens, we watch the news to hear if the name of the victim that was in the crosshairs of one of these beasts sounds Middle Eastern or not, just so we can sigh with relief that some guy named Johnson or Smith was not gunned down without a trial or due process of law.
New York Congressman Peter King was confronted with the reality of the American 'kill list' and what he believes Mitt Romney should do with it if he inherits it from Obama. His response was that killing Americans without due process is okay – because he believes the CIA over the American judicial system.
American Exceptionalism is responsible for no one standing trial for any war crimes that may have resulted after the attacks of September 11th, 2001 and the obvious war that was waged by our government leaders against the citizens of the United States.
The use or abuse of our so-called exceptionalism is always tied together with our right to go to war and murder in the name of protecting our magical document that no politician cares about. We also see that we are told that we, as a nation, stand above all things that appear corrupt and yet the examples we see do the exact opposite. All of these actions are seen by our children and they learn that there is no accountability, that there is a sense of entitlement, that nothing comes from hard work and that if there is anyone to blame it's their parents because they were responsible for saddling them with debt and destroying the planet.
At least, this is what we see with a new campaign called “The Future Children Project” where a group of children get together for an Obama campaign video where all of the problems of this world can be blamed on parents who did not buy into the new policies that are disguised as state socialism.
This, of course, is the same type of militant campaigning that was first presented with Samuel L. Jackson's video called "Wake The Fuck Up" – where a child turns into an angry militant saying that her parents and big brother are the problem because she won’t have a great future because of the wastes of her elders.
Furthermore, there is yet another militant campaign propaganda piece which shows older Americans that also feel that intimidation is a message that should be shared. The video threatens a riot or a personal attack on Mitt Romney. The creepiness is in the older woman saying that if you vote Republican that she will "burn this motherfucker down.
Campaigns that advocate militant extremism, even in some sort of dark humor, take the focus off of what is important and that is we have allowed ourselves to be careless about our responsibility as Americans and how a magical piece of parchment in the National Archives will save us when there seems to be no value being placed in being benevolent citizens that want peace and unity.
The truth is that we are now in a cycle of dissonance.
This dissonance is being encouraged because there are a few out there that believe that America can do anything it wants without consequence.
