Years ago Rock Music producer David Smith and myself embarked on a working screenplay idea called KRAMPUSNACHT or NIGHT OF THE KRAMPUS. The story deals with a young German boy that escapes an attack from the forest creature KRAMPUS, a demonic and murderous entity that is a staple of European Christmas folklore. Set in the era of World War II the young German boy witnesses the slaughter of his family at the hands of the KRAMPUS. The Boy’s Father just happens to be a guard at Auschwitz, the concentration camp where millions of people were killed.

Nearly 67 years later the now 80 year old man moves to the United States because he hears of a horrible statistic. Many U.S. Soldiers that have fought in the Middle Eastern wars have either committed suicide or have killed their families and later themselves. He believes that many of the deaths are linked to the KRAMPUS and that it’s demonic and destructive spirit he has been resurrected because of an endless and pointless war.

Now, it seems that in the real world – The spirit of the KRAMPUS has returned to GERMANY and the UNITED STATES.

THE NOTORIOUS SIGN ARBEIT MACT FREI HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM AUSCHWITZ:

In an eerie coincidence the notorious metal sign over the entrance of the Auschwitz death camp in Poland has been stolen. It happened during the time of Krampuslauf where the Krampus makes his visit to beat wayward children and to deface property. Is the KRAMPUS a symbol for war and torture because of his reputation as a marauding and frightening figure that has been known to beat children and young women and throw them in the river? Could his spirit be as powerful as that Of Santa because of the wars that are being fought during Christmas?

The Spirit of Santa Claus is a very powerful force at Christmas time. But a little known character that still makes an appearance in Europe is representation of the Dark side of the heart at Christmas time, this character is known as the Demonic KRAMPUS. I have been developing a screenplay about the creature and in it I use the creature as a symbol for the war like side of Christmas which seems to prevail in the news and with people who believe their beliefs are under attack. One part of the story links an attack of a German family during world war two to suicidal Soldiers in the United states that kill their families and themselves. KRAMPUSNACHT for some is an excuse to wear furry demonic costumes and scare tourists. But to others KRAMPUS is an evil clutching terror that reminds people of what hides in the shadows when there is no peace on earth or good will toward men.
