Transcript for 4/10/24: GHOST WORLD W/ BREANNAN S. MATRIS
It has been a few weeks since my appearance at the Oregon Ghost Conference, and after my talk about subatomic ghosts, I have been seeing breakthrough stories about how science is searching for that 4th dimensional ghost particle at CERN.
It is also a bit of synchronicity that CERN fired up the Large Hadron Collider During the eclipse and that on the same day Peter Higgs, the Nobel prize-winning physicist who proposed a new particle known as the Higgs-Boson, died.
He was 94 years old.
An important piece of CERN’s history and accomplishments is linked to him and the Higgs Boson God particle opened the doors for exploration into other dimensions bridging the gap from our world to the world beyond.
One could say CERN has opened the doors to the uncanny world of the paranormal. Beckoning the arrival of gods, aliens, demons, and ghosts.
What are ghosts? Well, particle accelerators are helping to explain them.
To one person a door closing on its own is a sign of a ghost, while for others it may be missing keys, a faint scent, a cold area in a home, or even a dream about a dead friend.
Traditionally we hear these stories all the time — but I have always had this theory — that these interactions with the other side or an overlapping dimension in time has a particle explanation and we are the ones responsible for calling these entities spirits of the dead.
When sociologists Dennis and Michele Waskul interviewed ghost experiencers for their 2016 book Ghostly Encounters: The Hauntings of Everyday Life they found that “many participants were not sure that they had encountered a ghost and remained uncertain that such phenomena were even possible, simply because they did not see something that approximated the conventional image of a ‘ghost.’
Instead, many of our respondents were simply convinced that they had experienced something uncanny — something inexplicable, extraordinary, mysterious, or eerie.”
Because of this, many people claiming to have had a ghostly experience didn’t necessarily see anything that most people would recognize as a classic “ghost.” They may have had different experiences whose only common factor is that it was not easily explained.
Ghost research is greatly complicated by the fact that there’s no consensus about what a ghost is—even among ghost hunters and “experts.” Some believe, for example, that ghosts are spirits of the dead who get “lost” on their way to “the other side”; others are sure that ghosts are instead telepathic entities projected into the world, or strong emotions somehow recorded and later “replayed” in the environment often called “stone tape theory”.
Still, others create their categories for different types of ghosts, such as poltergeists, residual hauntings, intelligent spirits and shadow people. It’s a fun exercise in fantasy, but of course, it’s all made up, like speculating on different types of dragons; there are as many types of ghosts as you want there to be.
There are many contradictions inherent in ideas about ghosts. For example, are ghosts material or not? Either they can move through walls and solid objects without disturbing them, or they can slam doors shut and throw objects across a room.
After we did the show about the Television special, After Life — I received a news story that furthered my interest in ghosts — not because of the traditional thought that they are undead — but also because the product of a quantum transit process.
The idea that the dead remain with us in spirit is ancient and appears in countless stories from the Bible to Macbeth. It even spawned a folklore genre: ghost stories. Belief in ghosts is part of a larger web of related paranormal beliefs, including near-death experiences, life after death, and spirit communication. Such beliefs offer many people comfort — who doesn’t want to believe that our departed loved ones are looking out for us, or with us in times of need?
Many people have tried to—or claimed to—communicate with spirits over the centuries–ghost stories and messages from the dead are all over ancient writings and medieval folklore.
I know that there are times when paranormal events are mentioned and there are people who feel so uncomfortable about it that they start invoking Jesus — or aim at debunking in a bullish manner anything that even pertains to the spiritual realms or those reams where we get most if not all of our ghost stories.
A lot of the derision I believe is based on either fear or the idea that the person in question has never felt a presence that they cannot account for.
But there is no doubt that we live in a demon-haunted world, a world of ghosts and ghouls that scream from their graves wanting to get our attention.
I have spoken recently on the idea of quantum ghosts –and how ghostly entanglements may be explained through quantum mechanics and particle physics.
It is simple logic — that if space is infinite and the distribution of matter is sufficiently uniform on large scales, then even the most unlikely events must take place somewhere.
It is all about the observer and whether or not it are aware of the event. Rest assured strange occurrences happen all the time, it is just that there aren’t many news stories to back it up these tales of treachery — only whispers among friends and neighbors about accounts of the supernatural.
Einstein proved that all the energy of the universe is constant and that it can neither be created nor destroyed… So, what happens to that energy when we die? If it cannot be destroyed, it must then be transformed into another form of energy. What is that new energy? … Could we call that new creation a ghost?”
In fact, Einstein’s theory is still valid, and we do have science to explain what happens to all that energy when we die. However, the answer is not “turns us into ghosts.” After a person dies, the energy in the body goes into the environment—that’s where all organisms’ energy goes after death. When we die, our energy is released in the form of heat.
So many people dying –and so much heat being released and yet the people who believe in global warming sustainability goals wish to depopulate the planet — maybe they should think again.
The energy and the paranormal cloud of souls must be gargantuan.
If you think about it, why wouldn’t this planet be haunted by the dead –all of the war dead, the genocides, Holocausts, and bloodshed that seems to be everywhere?
Think of it, if the dead outnumber the living on this planet, then we could theorize that the earth is like a ghost ship, being piloted by a few survivors that in some cases envy the dead. From time to time an apparition appears and screams to the living “Remember me, remember what I fought for .”
However, I don’t think our ears are tuned in to the voices of the long dead, even though time after time there have been ghost investigators who have recorded their monosyllabic greetings and warnings.
Let’s face it the cold stones that reach out form the graves are just a drop in the ocean of the dead. The world is littered with the corpses of war’s victims, from Ukraine to Israel, Palestine, and beyond.
There are shallow graves that have been left by killers.
Keep in mind that the vast majority are innocent civilians who never picked up a gun. The earth is so saturated with all their blood that one would expect the rivers to run red as a reminder.
But the paranormal ether is full of souls who have remained and feel stuck between worlds. They all have stories to tell, and business that needs to be closed.
This is why we are part of a very complicated ghost story.
It cannot be ignored anymore — I think that we have found a way to just take for granted that souls are lifted from the earth and some of them before their time.
But what is the soul made of — is it something that can be measured or quantified? Perhaps we suppose that beyond the paranormal explanations, we can see that ghosts are made up of particles as small as tachyon.
A tachyon or tachyonic particle is a hypothetical particle that always travels faster than light. Physicists believe that faster-than-light particles cannot exist because they are inconsistent with the known laws of physics.
But tachyons are not entirely invisible. You can imagine that you might produce them in some exotic nuclear reaction. If they are charged, you could “see” them .
It’s worth noting that when one considers the relativistic quantum mechanics of tachyons, the question of whether they “really” go faster than the speed of light becomes much more of a touchy subject In this framework, tachyons are waves that satisfy a wave equation.
I recently did a lecture at the Oregon Ghost conference about sub-atomic ghosts and theorized that they can be seen as particles and that if enough experiments were conducted we could open up a Rosen bridge or conduit to the spirit world– or to a dimension where ghosts allegedly reside.
That of course would be unconventional and would leave out those who believe that all ghosts are the trapped spirits of the dead.
I mean romanticism dies and the fears tend to be tranquilized when science decides that or souls are quantum packets that can be put conveniently in a particle accelerator to be examined by particle Physicists.
After to lecture I was told that CERN was going to fire up again on April 8th and one of their goals was to find what has been called a ghost particle.
Some physicists have long suspected that mysterious ‘ghost’ particles in the world around us could greatly advance our understanding of the true nature of the Universe.
Now scientists think they’ve found a way to prove whether or not they exist.
CERN has approved an experiment designed to find evidence for them. The new instrument will be a thousand times more sensitive to such particles than previous devices.
It will smash particles into a hard surface to detect them instead of against each other like CERN’s main device the Large Hadron Collider.
The current theory of particle physics is called the Standard Model.
It says that everything in the Universe is made up of a family of 17 particles – well-known ones such as the electron and the Higgs boson – as well as the lesser-known but wonderfully named charm quark, tau neutrino and gluon.
Some are mixed up in different combinations to make up the larger, but still incredibly small, particles that make up the world around us, as well as the stars and galaxies we see in space, while others are involved in the forces of nature.
But there’s a problem: astronomers have noticed things in the heavens – the way galaxies move, for example – that strongly suggest that all that we can observe makes up just five per cent of the Universe.
Some, or even all the rest of the Universe, could be made up of the ‘ghost’ or ‘hidden’ particles. They are thought to be phantom doppelgangers of the 17 particles of the Standard Model.
If they exist, they are really hard to detect because they very rarely interact with the world we know. Like ghosts, they pass straight through everything, and can’t be detected by any earthly device.
But the theory is that the ghost particles can, very rarely, disintegrate into Standard Model particles, and these can be picked up by detectors. The new instrument increases the chances of detecting these disintegrations by greatly increasing the number of collisions.
The Universe itself seems to be a bunch of unfinished business.
The earth itself is full of mysteries and dare I say that the paranormal when normalized will answer a lot of questions about why things go from Order to Chaos –and then back to Order again.
One big unpredictable fractal.
Think of it this way some of you listen to me on the radio. You listen to me on one radio station even though to each side of the radio band ar a plurality of radio stations or frequencies.
Our brain registers less than 0.5 degrees or percent of all emanations that are out there. So our life is tuned to one radio station.
However, sometimes, there is an interference between other radio stations and our radio station, creating strange and anomalous cross talk — and we hear ghostly sounds coming through over my broadcast.
This is a chaotic example of how things can all of a sudden overlap creating a chaotic broadcast.
This also can explain ghost phenomena where the dimensions over lap and you see the remnants of that other frequency or other station trying to broadcast a message.
To understand this phenomenon, one must first grasp one of the most fundamental principles of quantum mechanics: observation changes the subject being observed.
The simple act of observing or measuring a particle forces it into an energy state. Unobserved, a particle may take any energy state available to it, but when a sentient observer is introduced, the particle becomes locked.
You can either see a direct apparition or something on the periphery — like those images you see in the corners of your eyes — yes they may be floaters or particles in the eye — or they may be particles of another anomaly — that can shock you when you least expect it.
The hunt for ghost particles certainly is a breakthrough in science coming to the halfway point to panpsychism– putting some consciousness back into the scientific method.
Panpsychism is the view that all things have a mind or a mind-like quality–all things have a consciousness to be explored. The mind is a fundamental feature of the world that exists throughout the universe.
It is often said that you know someone’s true colors by seeing how they respond to a threat. That threat can be of many different types, from your house being broken into, to an intellectual threat against your system of beliefs.
Believe me, when it comes to ghosts, some people have their faith threatened. Some ghost hunters feel that their practices are being threatened.
However there is room for opinion and practice in the strange new world of unexpected laws and rules in Quantum mechanics that dictate what happens at the level of molecules and smaller material components.
Even Einstein could not resign himself to the new worldview coming from quantum physics — that set of beliefs that told us, in essence, that reality was only partially knowable to us humans, and that the very core of nature was hidden from our powers of reasoning.
People are often resistant to change or to new theories about age old concepts — the spirit world is the great unknown and yet so many people will tell you they know all about it.
To know it must be experienced, it must be demonstrated and in this way of educating – people wouldn’t be so hostile to those who practice the art of clearing or busting ghosts.
Discovery is half the battle.
Knowing something about one item out of a pair will tell us something about the other, even before anyone measures it, and that happens instantaneously, or at least faster than light could have traveled between the two. This was what Einstein called “spooky action at a distance.”
The quantum ghost, we now know, is here to stay.
